Steamer - A. P. Hurt
Builder:
Built: 1860 in Wilmington, Delaware
Captains: Capt. Alex Robinson (1896)
Specifications: steel hull; 81 tons, 118 ft. long, 18 ft. wide, 6 ft.
depth. Side paddle wheel driven originally. Apparently when the vessel was rebuilt (pre-1888), the ton was
listed as 140.11 tons. The drive mechanism apparently was changed also.
Notes: When the Cape Fear River
receded suddenly in 1895, the Steamer Cape Fear was destroyed (see middle and
superstructure on left) while the steel hull Steamer A. P. Hurt survived
(picture at right). Below is the A. P. Hurt circa 1890.
