Textile Factory - Mallett's Cotton Factory

Specifications: Machinery made by the Mattewan Works of New York 
Notes: Construction on factory started in Fall 1835. The factory opened in July 1836 with 500 spindles, but would soon to expanded to 1,000 spindles, and then 1,500 spindles by May 1837. The factory employed 52 - 62 people and used 800 bales of cotton a year. This was the second textile mill to open in Fayetteville, NC. The capital cost for the factory was estimated at $40,000.
